Draughts is called checkers in American English and on many computers. The general word for a chess figure is piece - "One of the black pieces is missing." We also use piece for draughts, checkers and backgammon. In other board games, the things we move are usually called counters. In modern English, dace is the singular and plural form - one dice, two dice.
